I started in the Internal Sales team at Radicon, which allowed me to gain some very valuable product and industry knowledge. I learned about different types of industrial gearboxes and couplings, went on site visits to learn more about the industry, spoke to customers about their needs, selected gearboxes based on the application details which were provided by the customer and sent quotations to customers, once the correct gearbox had been selected.

My degree and masters in Automotive Engineering was mainly based on Mechanical Engineering, with modules including: Engineering materials, CAD (Solidworks) and CAM, vehicle ride and handling, Engineering programming (Matlab), thermodynamics, thermofluids and management modules among others. I also formed part of the 'Engine team' for the 2010/11 SAE Formula student race car project, where my main focus was to design and manufacture a custom made exhaust system and also the throttle system for the car. I also performed testing and analysis of these parts, using the university's on-site engine testing facilities. The car used a brand new KTM 450cc single cylinder engine, which had never been used before, so it was a challenging task designing the new parts to suit a different style of engine to those which had previously been used in the cars.
