Todd Zion, Ph.D., is co-founder, President and CEO of Akston Biosciences, and serves as the Chairman of the Board. He co-developed Akston’s Ambifect™ proprietary protein platform. He has been instrumental in developing the company’s key partnerships around the world. Previously, Todd was President and CEO of SmartCells, Inc., developer of SmartInsulin – the first clinically tested glucose-responsive insulin, from its founding in 2003 through its sale to Merck & Co., Inc. in 2010. Todd has received more than 40 patents while at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, SmartCells and Akston Biosciences. He earned a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at M.I.T. and graduated from Cornell University summa cum laude with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He currently serves as Associate Director at M.I.T.’s Venture Mentoring Service and sits on the M.I.T. and the Cornell Chemical Engineering Visiting Committees.
