Thomas Silvera, MSHS-PH , CST, (DHSc Candidate)
Co-Founder/ Vice President & Executive Director @ Elijah-Alavi Foundation Inc.
About
I am the Co-Founder, of the Elijah-Alavi Foundation Inc, an award-winning non-profit organization dedicated to advancing food allergy and asthma awareness. Our mission is rooted in creating meaningful change, with a strong focus on health equity and access. Throughout my journey, I have been fortunate to collaborate with nationally recognized organizations such as the AAFA, Asthma and Allergy Network, FARE, CFAAR, and distinguished partners at the CDC and FDA. These partnerships have allowed me to engage in policy discussions, research collaborations, and awareness initiatives that continue to influence national conversations on food allergy and asthma. In addition to nonprofit and government collaborations, I have also worked with leading pharmaceutical companies and businesses committed to driving innovation and awareness in the allergy and asthma space. Through these partnerships, I have contributed as a multistakeholder patient advisor, campaign collaborator, and consultant, helping to ensure the patient perspective remains at the center of product development, education, and outreach. One of my proudest accomplishments has been co-leading the advocacy behind Elijah’s Law, named in memory of my beloved son, Elijah-Alavi, which was first enacted in New York State in 2019. Since then, it has successfully expanded to Illinois, Virginia, Maryland, Arkansas and California, with pending legislation in several additional states. Elijah’s Law has set a national precedent for protecting children in early childcare and educational settings from life-threatening allergic reactions. My work has extended beyond legislation to include keynote speaking, educational workshops, peer-reviewed publications, and media engagement. These platforms have provided opportunities to share my expertise, shed light on disparities in allergy and asthma management, and advocate for equitable healthcare access across underserved populations. Alongside my nonprofit leadership, I am a Certified Surgical Technologist and Food Allergy Educator Instructor, committed to advancing public health and patient safety. My vision remains clear: to see Elijah’s Law enacted at the federal level and to continue building bridges with nonprofits, corporations, government agencies, and community organizations to improve the lives of children and families nationwide. I invite you to connect with me and join in this mission to raise awareness, inspire action, and create a healthier, more inclusive future for all.
