Senior Computational Biologist @ Chan Zuckerberg Initiative

About

I am a Senior Computational Biologist at the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, where I bridge the gap between AI/ML model development and high-impact biomedical research. My work is centered on building scalable computational workflows and scientific products necessary to unlock the next generation of therapeutic targets. Throughout my career at Genentech and Stanford University, I have specialized in the end-to-end discovery process, from raw multimodal data to prioritized biological insights. I have a proven track record of: Driving Target Discovery: Leading the supports for immunology target identification, specifically for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), by integrating single-cell and spatial transcriptomics. Accelerating Biomarker Development: Designing computational frameworks that integrate molecular, cellular, and clinical data to enhance decision-making across the R&D pipeline. Optimizing Workflows: Developing workstreams that reduced dataset analysis time, significantly increasing the speed of target prioritization. Leveraging AI/ML for Biology: Utilizing foundation models and advanced statistical modeling to explore complex systems, including neurodegeneration and neuroimmune communication. I thrive in cross-functional environments, partnering with engineers, product teams, and external community researchers to ensure that every tool we build is scientifically rigorous and actionable for drug discovery. Core Expertise: Target & Biomarker Discovery | AI/ML Workflow Development | Single-cell & Spatial Transcriptomics | Multimodal Data Integration | Neuro-immunology | [Python, R, Unix, AWS].

As a Computational Biologist on the OMNI Bioinformatics team, I worked within cross-functional teams to support discovery of immunology targets and development of therapeutics for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). I developed computational frameworks for the integration and analysis of multimodal data (molecular, cellular, clinical, and imaging) to enhance decision-making across the research and development pipeline. My work includes utilizing single cell and spatial transcriptomics and histology, along with foundation models for target discovery, target prioritization, biomarker discovery, and biomarker development. As a result, I was able to bring forward to targets for prioritization and create workstreams to help analyze datasets in a more timely manner saving approximately 10% of time from previous workstreams.

My dissertation work is aimed at investigating the effects of peripheral glia in the spleen and their role in neuroimmune communication. Specifically, I have defined in detail their anatomy and morphology for the first time using immunohistochemistry. In addition, I generated transcriptomic data to describe their similarities and differences to other glial types in the CNS and PNS. My work is also aimed at investigating how they interact with sympathetic nerves and how the nerve glia bundle initiates and resolves immune responses.
