About
Dr. Tarek Rahmy is currently Emeritus Professor of Histology and Cytology at Zoology Department, Faculty of Science, Suez Canal University (SCU). He graduated from the same faculty (1981) and subsequently worked as demonstrator then associate lecturer (1985). He obtained his Ph.D. (1989) through Joint Supervision (Colorado State University, USA and SCU, Egypt), then associate professor (1994) and Full Professor (2001). He was appointed at SCU as Head of Zoology Department (2005), Director of The Education Development Center and Project Management (2012), Dean of Fish-Farming and Fish Technology Institute (2013), Vice President for Education and Student Affairs (2015) then President of SCU. In 2019, a presidential decree was issued appointing him as Governor of El-Gharbia Governorate. He has 39 years’ teaching as well as research experience at SCU, UAE University and King Abdulaziz University, KSA. He was peer reviewer at the Egyptian National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education. His main interests in pathogenesis of snake and scorpion venoms as well as the use of their isolated components that benefit drug discovery. He was member of the National Committee of Toxicology in Egypt, the Founder and Chairman of the Egyptian Society of Natural Toxins (2003 to data). He obtained 13 research grants from Egypt, UAE and Saudi Arabia, and organized 10 international conferences, participated in 36 workshops and 37 conferences (oral or poster presentation, attendance, chairman or speaker). He also is co-editor of the Egyptian Journal of Natural Toxins (10 volumes). He supervised more than 20 M.Sc and Ph.D., referee for 30 thesis, scientific papers, books and staff promotion files. He published 63 scientific research papers in local and international journals and participated in editing a book and a scientific dictionary. At El-Gharbia Governorate. He participated in the establishment of 6 new faculties and 12 specialized centers as well as accreditation of 7 faculties at SCU and the establishment of Samannoud University of Technology and selection of Zefta city to join the UNESCO Network of Learning Cities (2024).
