Hi there, I’m Qi Xuan, a Mechanical Design Engineer with over 3 years of experience in automated material handling (AMHS) and automated storage and retrieval (ASRS) system design for the semiconductor industry. At Stratus Automation, I focus on developing and retrofitting seamless, fully or semi-automated handling solutions into existing fab lines. My work involves designing systems that interface with various wafer carriers, including SMIF Pods and HA200 for 200mm wafers, FOUPs for 300mm wafers, and Reticle Pods used in photolithography processes. Beyond front-end wafer handling, I’ve also been involved in back-end material handling systems such as slot magazines and tray-based modules. This cross-functional exposure has deepened my understanding of how front-end and back-end automation must integrate seamlessly to support high-volume semiconductor manufacturing. Beyond design work, I’m also involved in cleanroom fab inspections, where I assess layouts and propose customized AMHS integrations that align with each customer’s operational requirements. My role also extends to prototype validation, continuous improvement initiatives, and on-site installation coordination to ensure systems are implemented efficiently and reliably.

1. Prepare & develop designs, 3D models, and 2D manufacturing drawings and generate BOM Lists of automated material handling (AMHS) and automated storage & retrieval (ASRS) machines. 2. Analyze fab layout drawings & process flow to design fully or semi-automated AMHS (Automated Material Handling Systems) tailored to site constraints, tool interfaces, and handling needs, ensuring seamless integration with minimal fab disruption 3. Conduct thorough cleanroom fab line inspections and propose integrated semi/full AMHS solutions based on customer's layout & requirements. 4. Assess prototype tests, studies, and improvement works on existing or conceptual products. 5. Optimizing & assisting in the coordination of on-site installation works. 6. Design & development of Class 100 std Reticle two-tier zero-footprint stocker with a throughput of 120 pods/hour, a maximum capacity of 132 reticle pods & a total travel distance of 13.3 meters.

I was recruited to mainly assist in designing, calculating, and tendring work on various Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems using computer-aided design (CAD MEP) Software. Key Contributions & Works include: 1. Supported in designing a Fire Protection System (FPS) for a 5-story hostel building located in Klang, including a comprehensive hose reel, smoke detectors, sprinkler systems and Co2 fire suppression system. (Design as per UBBL and BOMBA Requirements) 2. Contributed to the design of Cold Water Distribution (CW), Sanitary Plumbing (SP), & Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) systems for the commercialized development project located at Setapak. (Design complies with SPAN & DBKL requirements) 3. Abetted with designing a wet scrubber and process wastewater piping system for an integrated chipset manufacturing plant in Melaka.

Thermal Mechanical Evaluation Trainee

Brought on to assist in the thermal development of an in-progress project on the various 2021 & 2022 innovative smart TV development models. Primarily tasked with thermal designing, evaluation, thermal improvement and airflow analysis during Design Validation Trial (DVT) & Product Validation Trial (PVT) Key Contributions & works include: 1. Participated in various simulating studies on chassis boards (T-con board, LD-board, B-board, etc.) using computer-aided thermal designing and simulating software, CFD-scSTREAM, and thermography solutions. 2. As part of a 4-person team, I participated in an extreme dynamic range (XDR) display study investigating the maximum voltage workload and temperature workload based on the saturation of the rising curve and deviation losses. 3. Evaluated various closed ventilations, dimming control & VICAT temperature softening assessments. 4. Supported Chassis engineers on insulations sheet, impact & vibrational analysis.

Individual Final Year Research Project entitled “Development of Fire Risk Assessment Index for Mobile Fire Load." - Investigate the relationship of fire risk associated with dynamically changing mobile fire load densities. - Proposed and developed a real-time application of an indoor mobile fire load detection system that utilized various deep-learning machine vision algorithms. (Yolov5, DeepSORT & OpenCV) - Established a real-time fire risk assessment framework of mobile fire load in a dynamically changing area of interest.
