The focus of the role was to work with Product Development to ensure all of that each product release makes optimal use of Oracle features and configurations to ensure high performance, high availability solutions. Working with the Product Delivery group was another requirement of the role, which required frequent international travel to deploy bare metal servers with the required operating system and Oracle database configuration. Typical deployments consisted of large and complex data warehouse environments connected to SAN storage, and applications presented using Citrix or web front ends. Providing third line support and Oracle consultancy for customers was another key aspect of the role.

Support of specialised mobile network planning applications was also part of the role, as was regular documentation of systems and procedures.
