Aircom International provides industry leading solutions to mobile network operators worldwide. The focus of the role was to work with Product Development to ensure all of that each product release makes optimal use of Oracle features and configurations to ensure high performance, high availability solutions. Working with the Product Delivery group was another requirement of the role, which required frequent international travel to deploy bare metal servers with the required operating system and Oracle database configuration. Typical deployments consisted of large and complex data warehouse environments connected to SAN storage, and applications presented using Citrix or web front ends. Providing third line support and Oracle consultancy for customers was another key aspect of the role.

Merrill Legal Solutions is the world’s largest international court reporting, transcription and broadcast-subtitling company. The role required regular on-site consultation with clients from legal firms and the media to deliver services to their precise requirements. This included advice on the types of services available, technical, personnel, and logistical requirements, and providing training and technical IT support for the LiveNote software.

Ericsson is a global provider of telecommunications equipment and related services to fixed and mobile operators. The role encompassed both a systems implementation aspect, as well as a customer support focus, in accordance with Service Level Agreements. The systems implemented and supported varied from large terabyte Oracle data warehouses and mobile network planning applications with many concurrent users on Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server. Due to the rapid pace of the telecommunications industry, packaged software releases often required significant customisation work when deployed at customer sites in the form of additional SQL reports, Oracle and UNIX backend maintenance scripts to ease administration.

Optus is an Australian leader in integrated telecommunications, delivering cutting-edge communications, information technology and entertainment services. The role required support and maintenance of the systems and databases used by the Mobile Access Networks department. This included monitoring production and development Oracle databases and web servers, and implementing Oracle Standby Database to ensure high availability of various web and desktop applications. In addition to database and UNIX system administration functions, the role also required evaluation of more recent database and web technologies that could be used to enhance internally developed software. This involved configuring proof of concept systems. Development of UNIX shell scripts was often required to automate backend maintenance tasks, and streamline development activities. Support of specialised mobile network planning applications was also part of the role, as was regular documentation of systems and procedures.

BMI Healthcare is the UK’s leading provider of independent health care services. This role required the management of IT Platforms group, whose function is to provide third line technical support for the company's Oracle and SQL Server based clinical and non-clinical applications. These included the Patient Administration Systems, Enterprise Resource Planning and Business Intelligence platforms, as well as in house developed web applications, and many of the company's external websites. Some of the Oracle technologies supported by the Platforms group include PeopleSoft, Discoverer, Application Express, Application Server, Portal, and Internet Directory.
