Talal Khawaja

I began working as an Engineering Planning Co-op Student with the City of Richmond, where I support municipal infrastructure planning within the Engineering & Public Works department. In this role, I contribute to the review and coordination of building permit and subdivision applications by analyzing engineering drawings and verifying compliance with City bylaws, municipal standards and long-term servicing strategies. I work closely with GIS, drafting and utility teams to update and verify service connection data across City systems, gaining hands-on exposure to municipal permitting workflows and inter-departmental coordination. This experience has allowed me to better understand how public infrastructure projects are planned, reviewed and implemented at the municipal level, and I look forward to continuing to develop my technical and professional skills while contributing to the City’s engineering planning objectives.

 Collaborated in international Research on corrosion and prevention methods, with lectures, field visits and lab work.  Gained hands-on experience with corrosion mechanisms, material degradation, and protective methods in the lab.  Conducted field research and contributed to a final group proposal and report on corrosion issues in infrastructure.  Explored ethical considerations in materials selection and sustainability in corrosion engineering.

I am a current student at The University of British Columbia, pursuing a degree in engineering. I have a keen interest in electronics, robotics, and design, and I have developed skills in Arduino, SOLIDWORKS, and C programming. Recently, I completed a three-month internship as an E-Commerce Sales Associate at Integrated Networking Solutions, a company that sells networking products and solutions on Amazon and in-store. In this role, I worked on optimizing the product listings on the company's Amazon seller account, using SEO techniques, keywords, and images to increase visibility and conversions. I also responded promptly to customer inquiries, providing accurate and helpful information, resolving issues, and ensuring customer satisfaction. I enjoyed working with a diverse and supportive team, learning from their feedback and insights, and contributing to the company's growth and reputation. I am eager to apply my skills and knowledge to new challenges and opportunities and to learn from experienced professionals in the field of e-commerce and engineering.
