Responsibilities include the running of the shop floor, regulating stock (in fashion, stationery and grocery outlets) and cash flow in tills and safe. I have to deal calmly and professionally with customer complaints and unexpected problems which may occur in the store. The skills I have learned from this position include the ability to lead a team of staff both in normal and extraordinary situations such as Fresher’s Week, organise rotas and handle staff shortages, complaint handling, basic purchasing skills and excellent customer service. I was also actively involved in the recruitment and training of new staff members and new supervisors.

During my Year Abroad I taught English to three children (9, 8 and 5 years of age) and gave conversation classes to adults (between 25 and 35 years of age), ranging from complete beginners (A1) to near fluent speakers (C1). One of my students went to a bilingual school, taking science classes in English, which I tutored her in.

As a retail assistant, my responsibilities included delivering outstanding customer service on tills and on the shop floor, as well as regulating stock on the shop floor.
