Ms. Shourds was responsible for communicating awareness of environmental concerns and issues and facilitating educational activities for children ranging in age from 8 to 15 years old. She was also responsible for the daily and weekly operation of the camp, including the supervision of two camp counselors, activity scheduling, and the completion of oral and written weekly progress reports.

While at FSU, Ms. Shourds assisted a professor in the Department of Biology by teaching one section of General Biology I Laboratory as well as providing support for the lecture section of the course. As part of her responsibilities, Ms. Shourds was responsible for conveying biological topic information to students in a laboratory setting as well as assessing student progress throughout the course.

With EnDyna, Ms. Shourds provided technical and programmatic support on the firm's contracts with the Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council (ITRC) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA). Her efforts included populating and maintaining databases, preparing meeting summaries and conference call notes, conducting research and analysis, providing technical editing of reports and papers, and managing exhibition, conference, and workshop logistics. She also provided a broad array of technical support services to the ITRC Risk Assessment Resources, Radionuclides, Enhanced Attenuation of Chlorinated Organics, and Bioremediation of DNAPLs Teams, including providing logistical and on-Site support before, during, and after each team's three meetings per year. In addition, Ms. Shourds acted in an administrative capacity by preparing invoices, maintaining accounting records, acting as the company website and email administrator.

Within the Residence Life Office of the University, Ms. Shourds acted as a Resident Director for an on-campus residence hall housing up to 185, predominately freshmen, students. This position included the supervision of up to five Resident Assistants and the organization of education programs provided for the benefit of the hall’s residence. She also provided both oral and written feedback on the progress of the hall and its students at various points throughout the year. Mrs. Shourds was also responsible for the compilation and publication of the monthly on-campus living newsletter, which summarized the events occurring on-campus and was provided to all university housing residents. In addition, Ms. Shourds was responsible for the handling of in-hall judicial matters, and acted as both a hearing officer and panel member for the on-campus judiciary system. She also acted as an advisor for the Hall Council and Residence Hall Association, and as a liaison between residents, RA’s, the Residence Life Office, housekeeping and maintenance.

Ms. Shourds assisted the on duty doctors by preparing patients for, and assisting the doctors during, surgical procedures. As part of her duties, Ms. Shourds administered anesthesia, monitored patients under anesthesia (including the use of pulse oximeters, ECGs, and blood pressure monitors) and maintained detailed records of anesthetic procedures. Ms. Shourds also assisted the doctors by performing dental prophylaxis, radiography, and ultrasounds as directed. She routinely placed intravenous catheters in small mammals, collected specimens, and performed in-house laboratory testing. Additional duties included the maintenance and sterilization of surgical, anesthesia, and dental equipment; monitoring, treatment, and general care of patients; dispensing of medications under doctor’s supervision; and cash management, customer and client service, employee scheduling, and employee training.
