I joined the company to stage Il Tabarro in 2010 and Die Zauberflote in 2011.

Susan Gonzalez has professional experience internationally in both theater and opera. Her training and experience in theater paved the way to an active career in both opera and concert repertoire which began with the National Opera Company and led to leading roles with the Lyric Opera of Chicago at Grant Park, Chicago Opera Theater, and New Orleans Opera, among many others. Her international credits include debuts with the Bolshoi Opera in Cheboksary and Nishny Novgorod, Russia. Other television credits include her appearance as Rosina in a filmed version of Il Barbierre di Siviglia which went on to receive an EMMY nomination. Susan Gonzalez’s solo concert appearances include performances at New York's Avery Fisher Hall with the National Symphony, and Carnegie Hall with the American Composers Orchestra. She has also performed with the Brooklyn Philharmonic, Cincinnati Symphony, Annapolis Symphony and the Mozart Players. Her recordings include CDs released by Naxos featuring the songs and arias of Nicholas Flagello and Leonarda label entitled “Songs by Women” .

I staged Il Campanello, Donizetti/ Dei Fledermaus, Strauss. Both were performed in various locations in New Jersey with orchestra.

I teach and guide voice students in the undergraduate and graduate programs at Hunter College and DMA candidates at CUNY Grad Center. We offer Opera Workshop in the fall and Opera Production in the spring. I teach Voice Class and private studio voice.

* I have directed numerous operas for the Bronx Arts Ensemble over the years. Working with kids to enhance the experience of opera in their cultural dialogue. * Operas include: * The Devil and Daniel Webster, Douglas Moore * The Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, Lucas Foss

Hunter Opera Theatre evolved out opera workshop in 2007. We kicked off or first season with Nicholas Flagello's THE SISTERS and an adaptation of Offenbach's MONSIEUR CHOUFLEURI in the Silvia and Danny Kaye Playhouse. Our mission is to present new and rarely performed works with the Hunter College students and alumni. We present scenes and fully staged productions every semester. This also includes the Pocket Opera Project which showcases 10 minute student composed operas.
