Sumitt F.
Additive Manufacturing Engineer - Carbon DLS @ BD
About
Growing up, my mom and dad would always call me "a little mechanic" because I would try to fix something and usually end up making it worse... Although it is a cliché of engineering, this is how I knew I wanted to work with my hands and that I ultimately wanted to work as an engineer. I've always wanted to help people and my dad was a big part of that. Before I was born, a drunk driver hit him which forced surgeons to cut out muscle mass from his leg and has always walked with pain and a limp since then. I want to help people who get the short end of the straw or make mistakes and have to live with them the rest of the life, I want to develop prosthetics and help make them cheaper to allow the benefits to reach anyone who needs them. Along with prosthetics, I've always been interested in the hardware aspect of computers, biking, 3D printing, and mathematics. Notable skills: adaptability, easy-going, team player Strengths: discipline, learner, curious

Additive Manufacturing Engineer - Carbon DLS
Durham, North Carolina, United States
Prepare and support job requests from internal BD engineers around the world to help prototype designs using Carbon DLS. Think outside of the box to overcome limitations through CAD or software tricks - where hardware changes aren't possible.

Research And Development Intern-3D Printing
Durham, North Carolina, United States
During this Internship, I have worked on cost reduction using hobbyist level 3D printers to with cheaper, much more accessible materials, material testing through exposure of common medical cleaning solvents, streamlined washing process for certain resins, adjusted parameters for known good materials and validating them on a much cheaper and open-source platform. Currently, I am working with metal printers to help reduce residual stresses during the printing process to allow for easier post processing.

Fabrication Technician
NCSU CAMAL
Reverse engineering various components provided by the 13th Airborne. These ranged from end plugs for water buffalos or Hummer side view mirror brackets to gladhand air handlers for air braking systems on heavier vehicles. These were all scanned and CAD files were recreated to then be 3D printed out of metal, nylon, or resins through EBM/LPBF, SLS/MJF, and DLP technologies

Kitchen Team Member
Cary, North Carolina, United States
Working the classic high stress, fast-moving environment with a team that requires quick communication as well as a good ability to adapt to whatever may come our way. Also be able to keep good mental during rushes or bad days to keep up our excellent service. My goal is to eventually become a Team Lead and get certifications like ServSafe.

Kitchen Manager
Cary, North Carolina, United States
Managing a group of workers on usually busy days--keeping up with breaks, communicating within the kitchen but also making sure to communicate to the front of house managers and team leads as well. A skill that I've found particularly useful is making sure to not let bad days influence how I'm feeling--which results in affecting the rest of the staffs working mood. One of the biggest parts of this role was being able to give input for the daily operations of the store from small to big, and feel like I was heard.
Education

Mechanical Engineering
My name is Sumitt Farmah, its been a long journey getting to where I am now as a 3rd year student. I enrolled into NCSU as a biomedical engineer, however, I wanted to be a key proponent of innovation and change in the technologies behind my ultimate goal: Improving prosthetics to give second chances to people who have gone through hardships in life. I'm working my way into research and internships little by little, and making sure I'm taking the time to talk to my professors and explore what North Carolina State University is really offering me!
