Sudha Sadasivan PhD MPH

Research scientific program director @ Henry Ford Health

About

I am passionate about integrating research and operations that aid in better translation of clinic findings to research and back to clinical care to improve quality of life of patients. To achieve this goal, I am helping to set up programs that increase early screening, diagnosis and treatment of cancers with particular emphasis on lung cancer. I am excited to be part of the Lung Cancer Research Program at Henry Ford Health - Michigan State University working towards bringing synergy and opportunities for scientists, clinicians, educators, community health partners and patients in expanding opportunities and building partnerships to improve early diagnosis and improve treatment for lung cancer. With a background in basic and population science, I have researched early developmental pathways, and conducted a number of retrospective and prospective cancer epidemiological studies and published extensively. I have served as the lead project manager for GRAIL sponsored clinical trials in multi cancer early detection - STRIVE and Pathfinder 2 study - primarily responsible for meeting all regulatory expectations and sponsor goals. I have over 15 years experience in Molecular Biology, Developmental Biology and Genetics with an extensive publication record and conference presentations. Overall my professional goal is to work in public health and clinical research to help reduce the gap between clinical findings, translation to basic science and application of the findings to improve our understanding of risk factors for cancer onset, disease progression and therapeutic response with the ultimate goal to help patients with a better quality of life.

Research focused on understanding the early events leading to formation and patterning of kidney in a zebrafish model Main contributions: > Investigated and established the unique role played by odd-skipped related genes (transcriptional regulators) in early zebrafish development > Uncovered previously unknown relation between kidney and vascular development in zebrafish. > Identified significant downstream and upstream interactors of odd skipped related 1 involved in gastrulation and subsequent development of tissue boundaries and organ systems. > Standardized various molecular testing methods such as in situ expression analysis of genes, drugs for pathway inhibitor studies, morphant (mutant) analysis. > Responsibilities also included training and mentoring graduate students and research assistants, collaborating and interacting with fellow researchers for numerous projects.
