Subhan Tariq

My story starts in peak COVID. In freshman year, I joined NYC Health + Hospitals Test & Trace to fight misinformation via community outreach. The work involved door-to-door outreach across the city, often in neighborhoods where distrust toward vaccines were high. It wasn’t easy. I was yelled at, pushed away, and constantly unwelcomed. But I also knew people who had suffered deeply from COVID, and I believed that even reaching one person could make a difference. So I did what I knew best, strategize and problem-solve. I realized that busy New Yorkers weren’t going to listen to a 19-year-old unless I listened to them first. I started experimenting with small tactics, offering free masks in exchange for a minute of conversation, partnering with local café employees to distribute information, and adapting outreach based on what people actually cared about. That experience taught me 2 things. I love helping others and finding creative solutions to do so. Naturally, this led me to pursue work at the intersection of healthcare and technology, where I strive to build tools that support others, especially those who are most vulnerable. Over the past few years, I was able to land multiple internships in health tech and participate in many different programs including one with Google. Through these experiences, I’ve worked on building secure healthcare applications, improving clinical workflows, and designing systems that prioritize patient privacy and care. I’m currently looking for full-time software engineering opportunities where I can continue building purposeful technology in healthcare and beyond.
