Stewart Abbot

Stewart is currently a Program Leader in AbbVie’s Oncology Early Development Team. He is a cell and molecular biologist with extensive pharmacology, toxicology, regulatory and advanced therapy manufacturing experience with over 20 years of experience in developing novel drugs. Most recently he served as CSO at Turnstone Biologics where he supported Turnstone’s IPO and clinical launch of Turnstone’s selected tumor infiltrating lymphocyte therapies. Prior to Turnstone, he has held positions of increasing responsibility across Life Sciences, Pharma and Biotech industries. His executive roles have included Head of Molecular and Cell Biology for General Electric Global Research, Executive Director Research for Celgene, Chief Development Officer at Fate Therapeutics and COO and CSO at Adicet Bio. He has managed and led multinational research sites, internal and external process development and manufacturing operations, international strategic alliances and associated product teams. Stewart has championed and led the development of four novel advanced cell- and stem cell-based product platforms, including co-initiating the development of Abecma (idecabtagene vicleucel), and over 12 distinct clinical-stage product candidates have emerged from groups that he has led. He and his groups have secured over $40MM in competitive grant funding and his therapeutics areas of interest include oncology, autoimmune and neurodegenerative disorders, and regenerative medicine. Stewart has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts and is an inventor on multiple issued patents and patent applications in the fields of stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, cell therapy and immunotherapy. He serves and has served as an advisory to several biopharmaceutical companies, venture capital groups and grant awarding bodies, as well as international societies focusing on the development of advanced therapeutics. Stewart received his B.Sc. in Biology from the University of Edinburgh, M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde and Ph.D. in Cell Biology & Pathology from the University of London
