Graduate research focused upon discovering and improving catalytic reactions for industrial processes and natural product synthesis. Ph.D. Thesis: The Rhodium-Catalyzed Asymmetric Reductive Aldol Reaction. (James Morken, Research Supervisor/Mentor) --Discovered multiple catalyst systems which promote a catalytic enantioselective reductive aldol reaction providing syn beta-hydroxy esters --Performed detailed experiments to determine and optimize the mechanism of metal-catalyzed organic processes. --Synthesized the C1-10 fragment of the natural product inostamycin utilizing the reductive aldol reaction as a key synthetic transformation --Developed an assay for screening catalyst libraries in parallel using IR thermography, leading to the discovery of a novel robust acyl transfer catalyst
