About The launch of U.S. Smoke & Fire was more than a business milestone — it was the beginning of a new way of thinking about life safety. For me, it has always been about more than compliance and engineering. It has been about reimagining smoke and fire protection as part of a greater artistic and human journey. I created U.S. Smoke & Fire Corp. in 1999, and a quarter century later it remains the foundation of smoke and fire curtain technology in the United States. Its creation changed many things — opening a path where none had existed, shaping an industry, and proving that a single idea, born from a dream, could evolve into innovations that save lives and transform architecture. Over the years, my journey has been defined by pioneering milestones. I was the first to advance UL 10D testing for curtain products with UL, creating a standard where none existed and legitimizing an entirely new category of life-safety technology. In 2016, I developed Steel-Tex®, the first flexible curtain system to endure UL 10B and the unforgiving hose stream test — proving that flexibility and strength could exist together. I went on to create Atrium Shield™, a safeguard for large, open atrium spaces, and developed the philosophy of Curtain Art™, reframing curtains as not just barriers, but as bespoke, artistic integrations into architecture itself. My philosophy is shaped by a lifetime of studying Eastern martial arts and the physical sciences. Discipline, courage, and flow — these principles inform both my work and my life. I believe in tearing down barriers: not only the physical walls in our buildings, but also the invisible walls that separate people, ideas, and creativity. Change takes courage. It means rejecting the comfort of convention and choosing instead to shape the future. My commitment has always been to listen deeply, design uniquely, and deliver solutions that honor both safety and beauty. What never changes is my devotion to the smoke and fire curtain industry — it is part of who I am. But beyond the technical, my work is also an art form, one that continues to evolve. I strive to blend science, artistry, and integrity into everything I create. This is my life’s work. My hope is that my greatest creation is still ahead of me, even as I remain humbled by the limits of being mortal. In the end, we are all in God’s hands.
