Committee Member of the Rural Regional Behavioral Health Policy Board As a committee member of the Rural Regional Behavioral Health Policy Board, I represented six counties in northeastern Nevada, encompassing an area larger than Mississippi. My role focused on addressing the unique challenges of providing behavioral health services across this expansive, rural region. Key Responsibilities: Policy Advocacy: Advocated for policies to improve transportation for accessing behavioral health services in both crisis and sub-acute scenarios. Legislation Development: Played a pivotal role in the creation of SB44, which aimed to cultivate a local workforce of mental health providers within Nevada. Funding Enhancement: Worked to improve Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement rates for behavioral health services, ensuring sustainable service provision. Workforce Development: Addressed provider shortages and championed initiatives to elevate care quality, focusing on training and recruitment. Data Quality Improvement: Enhanced the quality of behavioral health data collection and analysis to better inform policy and service delivery. Interagency Collaboration: Fostered improved communication and partnerships among various health agencies to streamline service provision. Service Access: Developed initiatives to enhance access to quality behavioral health services for Youth, Elderly, and Minority groups, with particular attention to the needs of Veterans. Achievements: Creation of SB 44 which created a Nevada home-grown mental health provider program. Provide funding to support local and state wide educational and feeder programs to build up licensed mental health providers from Nevada. Influenced significant legislative and policy changes that directly impacted the quality of mental health services in rural Nevada. Contributed to a strategic framework that successfully identified and began to close gaps in service provision across the region.

As Laboratory Manager in Dr. Weterings’ research team focused on DNA repair mechanisms during carcinogenesis, I was responsible for procurement, defining lab goals and objectives, and overseeing experimental design and quality control. I contributed to the design of experiments investigating a homeoprotective agent using junk DNA strands to minimize damage to healthy cells in irradiated mouse prostate cancer cell lines. My role was pivotal in ensuring efficient lab operations and advancing our understanding of cellular responses to radiation.

Reseaerch and Technology focus. Worked for Dr. Barbara Waszczak Neuropharmacology lab studying the A9-A10 Dopaminergic Motor Circuitry. Developed project for intranasal plasmid delivery of GDNF Protein to support Dopamine Neuron Health and intervne in Parkinsons Disease treatment.
