Worked on the Highland Rail upgrade from Aberdeen to Inverurie on a short-term contract as a Crane Supervisor / Appointed Person in accordance with GE700 Construction Site Safety and BS7121. I was responsible for ensuring all lifting operation were planned and conducted safely and ensured that all cranes, lifting appliances and lifting gear have been tested, thoroughly examined and inspected in accordance with statutory requirements and that the relevant reports, certificates and registers were up to date and available on site. I also ensured that all crane operators, banksmen and slingers were trained and competent and that evidence of such training and competence were available on site.

Ground Worker / Slinger / Crane Supervior

Worked on the AWPR Central and North Sections carrying out general groundwork duties which led to conducting lifting operations as a slinger for the groundwork, drainage, roadwork and structures teams when required. This also includes working on a HiAb for periods of time when necessary. Work closely with the Appointed Persons on site as and when required to ensure safe, smooth and efficient lifting operations are carried out.

QHSE Coordinator

My job on board Artemis Arctic and Polar Empress varied from day to day. I reported directly to and support the Party Manager in his daily work and offer him advice where necessary on all QHSE matters. I also worked closely with the seismic department chiefs and the maritime crew to promote and develop a proactive safety culture across all departments. Daily maintenance of the HSE management system was expected and weekly safety walk arounds were carried out with the Chief Officer with an ultimate aim to reduces the risks associated with maritime and seismic operations to as low as is reasonably practicable in an efficient and pragmatic manner. Other key responsibilities included the following: Coaching and supporting offshore crew in the proficient use of all tools within the QHSE MS. Training crew in the key aspects of Dolphin’s QHSE MS according to ISO9001 and OGP expectations. Encouraging full participation of all crew in Safety Meetings and chairing the monthly Safety Committee Meeting. Visiting and inspecting associated support and guard vessels and maintaining accurate inspection records. Participating in pre-survey meetings with clients as and when required. Promoting crew awareness of applicable QHSE Plans (Project, Crew, Yard, Interface, etc.) Maintaining the vessels’ Hazard Registers for insertion into the Crew HSE Plan. Alerting crew to lateral lessons learnt from Incident Investigations from other Dolphin vessels. Playing a key role in onboard Incident Investigations of HiPo’s, recordables, etc and using TOPSET methodology. Regularly quality controlling the vessels’ audit statuses and promote the timely closure of remedial actions. Performing annual servicing on Life Saving Appliances. Ensuring sufficient and timely supply of onboard QHSE resources and spares (PPE, safety equipment, etc.). Performing annual Noise Level Assessments. Documenting and recording all QHSE training. Promoting regular drills for Working at Height and Rescue at Height.

Offshore Safety and Survival Instructor

Instruct all elements of the Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) course to Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organization (OPITO) standard which includes, Sea Survival, First Aid, Totally Enclosed Motor Propelled Survival Craft (TEMPSC), Evacuation and Helicopter Safety.
