Steve Binnie

As CEO of Sappi Limited - a leading sustainable global provider of everyday materials made from woodfibre-based renewable resources – I am responsible for Sappi’s growth strategy in ensuring the organisation remains agile, stays ahead of market changes, preferences, customer needs and expectations. I lead a diversified and innovative team of over 12,000 people globally, focused on sustainable processes and products such as dissolving pulp (DP), graphics, packaging and speciality papers, and biomaterials, to ultimately build a more circular economy and a thriving world. I joined Sappi in July 2012 as CFO designate, a position I held for two months before being appointed CFO and an Executive Director. Two years later, in July of 2014, I took up the role of CEO. I have over 25 years of experience in senior financial positions, having been the CFO of Edcon for 10 years, CFO of TransUnion ITC and Group Financial Manager at Investec Bank Limited. I hold a BCom, BAcc, CA(SA) and an MBA and I am a proud alumnus of both the University of Witwatersrand and Heriot-Watt University. I am a husband and father and enjoy long-distance running to keep fit, relax and think through issues.
