Stephen J. Backo is a Lighting Designer for Theater and Industrial Events who has worked extensively in New York and California. NYC lighting design credits include Macbeth, Candida, and the US premiere of Ironbars with the Riverside Shakespeare Company, Of Blessed Memory and White Collar with The Directors Company, as well as Sedalia Run and the New Voices series with the Ensemble Studio Theater. He has assisted Phil Monat, Bob Jared, Ken Posner and Ann Wrightson. West Coast lighting design credits include Lamppost Reunion at the Court Theater in Los Angeles and George Coates Performance Works in San Francisco. Associate design work includes Apple WWDC, Sun Micro Systems, Oracle, and the San Francisco Opera Black & White Ball. Stephen has recently returned to NYC from San Francisco and is a member of United Scenic Artists-Local 829. He holds an MFA in Production Design & Technology from Ohio University.
