Harvesters is a regional non-profit and food bank that serves 27 counties in northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas. Harvesters provides food and related household products to approximately 900 non-profit agencies including food pantries, community kitchens, children’s homes, shelters, non-profit organizations, faith-based organizations, churches, health care providers, and others. In addition, we partner with approximately 400 schools for our back-snack program, school pantry program, and nutrition education programs. As outlined in the Map the Meal Gap study, my team serves approximately 339,000 people who are food insecure in our region. That represents 1 in 8 adults and 1 in 6 children who live in our 27-county region. In addition, we offer education and advocacy programs to increase community awareness of hunger and to teach nutrition to children and adults. Harvesters is a member of the Feeding America national network of food banks. A key focus of our organization is to work in strong collaboration with other food banks across the country. We are proud to serve as one of five regional disaster relief staging areas in the Feeding America network. Our organization works in collaboration to facilitate disaster response activities across the mid-west region and the United States. During the 2024 fiscal year, we distributed more than 60.8 million pounds of food and provided 54.6 million meals. We hosted 58,971 volunteers who donated 130,003 hours of service to the organization. I was elected to the Feeding America National Council and will begin my 3-year term in January 2025. I serve on the Feeding Missouri Board. I also have served on more than a dozen national committees and task forces.
