Completions & Commissioning manager for the Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro project in Far North Queensland. The project is delivered as a joint venture between McConnell Dowell and John Holland. This project is an existing abandoned gold mine and will be is used as a Pumped Storage Hydro Project, the scope involved is the construction of an upper reservoir (New Dam) and lower reservoir (Existing Mine Pit) and tunneling system including, Power house cavern, access tunnels, vertical intake shafts, cable and ventilation shafts and tail race tunnels. The Powerhouse contains 2 x 125MW Francis Turbines which act as both a generator and pump. I spend 7 weeks in Europe visiting fabrication facilities to witness FAT testing for most electrical systems. Setting up the commissioning structure from Construction to Pre-commissioning, to commissioning (Dry and Wet) to Start-up, AEMO Hold Point Testing, Performance Proving and lastly Custody transfer. They release a number of capital works projects every year which vary from new plants to upgrades of their water treatment and waste water treatment plants in the Hunter Valley in NSW. John Holland has secured 3 projects, 2 of which are at the final stages of commissioning and 1 that is in the middle of construction. The projects are: 1. Dungog WWTW, this is a $40M project replacing the existing 70 year old Dungog WWTW. The project consist of full process infrastructure from Inlet works, bioreactor, MBR membrane filtration, UV system and utilities. 2. Kurri Kurri WWTW, this is the smaller project of the 3, this project was an upgrade where a new clarifier was built and commissioned as well as an upgrade with the addition of 2 new blowers. 3. This project consist of a dewatering plant, a new bioreactor with MBR membrane filtration and also a PLC upgrade. The Sydney Desalination Plant was hit by cyclonic conditions in December 2015, causing large-scale damage to the facility. The 132 Switchyard was totally destroyed, the roof of the RO building was completely blown away and other defects occurred as a result of the storm. There were over 25,000 defect items that required to be closed out and managed in readiness for re-commissioning. This project consists of three main sections: Greenhouses and utilities, energy plant, and balance of plant (interface between the greenhouses and energy plant). The energy plant consisted of a heliostat field of 24.000+ individually controlled mirrors and a 115m-high solar tower which contains the flux receiver from the heliostat field. This tower produces steam, which is converted through a condenser to hot water. The hot water is stored in a thermal energy storage tank (22ML) and is used for both heating the greenhouse as well as an energy source to produce fresh water from sea water. The control for all equipment on site is managed from the Plant Control Centre (PCC) in Brisbane, we have started all of this equipment from Brisbane. Responsibilities for this role consisted of; Management of Vendor personnel which consisted of a Site leader, 3 x senior commissioning engineers, 3 x assistant commissioning engineers, 1 x mechanical technician, 1 x compressor specialist, 1 x compressor engineer and 1 x HV alternator specialist. Management and Coordination of Santos personnel which includes mechanical rotating equipment engineers, instrumentation technicians, electricians, punch list coordinators and administrators. Coordinate start up activities at the time of introduction of energy such are electrical power and introduction of gas, this includes NOE & Ready for Start Up (RFSU) safety reviews. The compressor stations in Fairview are all exporting gas, and are running reliably since forward flow of gas was achieved.

As part of the Santos GLNG project I'm part of the Santos commissioning team looking after the upstream component of the project. This project is located in Fairview, about 2 hours drive from Roma in Queensland. We are commissioning a gas hub, which is gas compression facility taking gas from the coal seam wells and then compresses the gas to such pressure to pump it to the main pipeline to Gladstone where the gas is turned into LNG. Commissioning activities are related to HV reticulation (33kV & 11kV), LV power, various types of compressors (Nodel and Turbine type), power generation, utilities, water treatment, control systems, instrumentation & piping systems. At peak I will be looking after 40 combined staff and workforce, this includes positions such as mechanical specialists, instrument & electrical (LV & HV) specialists, admin, safety advisors, commissioning technicians (Mechanical and E/I), commissioning management system specialists and commissioing coordinators.

Part of the MEFT (Mechanical / Electrical Fit out of Tunnels) team at Airport Link, Brisbane. This project as a whole is Australia's largest infrastructure project. Responsible for the completion of the M&E fit-out of the central area of the project. This included the installation of Lighting, CCTV, signage, electrical switch rooms, communication systems, dampers, jet fans ect. I was looking after 2 electrical engineers, 4 electrical supervisors, 1 safety advisor and 80 blue collar laubour force consisting of electricians, TA's and storeman.

Responsible for the handover of systems to the client as stipulated in the program. This included the pre-commissioning process for piping, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation. The resposibilities for the precommissioning work was managing a team of about 15 engineers and 13 superintendents & supervisors as well as admin staff. Managing a hydrotesting contractor for the entire hydro test scope on the project as well as specialised pre-commissioning activities such as lube oil flushing. Managing electrical and instrumentation pre-commissioning, which included cold loop checks, cable checks, instrument calibrations, motor bump tests and Hazardous area inspections. This project was delivered to completion is such manner the client was able to conduct their commissioning processes in parralel such as nitrogen/helium leak testing. Enabling them to maintain their program commitments. This project was delivered on time and on budget. Devil Creek was officially opened on February 24, 2012.
