About
A driven scientist with a passion for developing cutting-edge therapies for complement-mediated diseases. Sofiya brings hands-on expertise in complement biomarker assay development from her time at the University of Iowa. Her broad knowledge of complement biology, human immunology & translational research contributed to in-vitro pharmacological and biochemical studies of CTx001, which in turn facilitated its successful FDA IND clearance. She has particular expertise in development, validation and tech transfer of MSD assays. Sofiya holds a Bachelors degree in Biology from Luther College, and a PhD degree in Molecular Medicine from the University of Iowa.

During my PhD studies I developed and published a novel in vitro extracellular matrix-based human-specific model of complement regulation and C3 glomerulopathy pathogenesis. I have then used this model to conduct basic research on complement activation/regulation, and assess patient-specific C3 glomerulopathy disease drivers, such as anti-complement autoantibodies and complement protein mutations. During the course of my PhD I have given several oral and poster presentations of my work, both to the scientific community and lay audience.
