Simón Limón
Senior Product Development Engineer @ CONMET DE MEXICO, S.A. DE C.V.
About
I hold a degree in Aeronautical Engineering and a Master of Science in Engineering with a specialization in Materials Science from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. Since February 2022, I have been working as a Casting Simulation Engineer, initially at Nemak and, for the last 7 months, at ConMet. At Nemak, as part of an international multidisciplinary product development team I have been performing simulations to get castings free of metallurgical defects and solve stress deformation issues caused by temperature gradients during solidification. (software MAGMASoft, Flow 3D Cast, Siemens NX, JMatPro). At ConMet, (as well as I was at Nemak) I am also involved in every stage of the process, from feasibility studies to production support, where I assist process teams in resolving quality and process-related issues. My background in working with different simulation tools allows me to bring a well-rounded approach to problem-solving in casting design and production, now working primarily with ESI Procast and Creo Parametric . Before joining Nemak, I worked as a Research and Consultancy Engineer at the Graduate School, where I developed skills in managing projects, conducting failure analyses, and interacting with clients at all levels. I gained hands-on experience with software such as CATIA V5, ANSYS Workbench, and ANSYS SpaceClaim, and utilized various non-destructive testing methods and microstructural characterization techniques, including metallography, microscopy, and mechanical testing (e.g., microhardness Vickers, tensile, and compression tests following API and ASM standards). Additionally, during my graduate studies in Materials Science, I worked with software such as Corrware 2.0 for corrosion kinetics analysis, JMatPro for alloy properties, and Highscore Plus for X-ray diffraction data. My background in Aeronautical Engineering further provided me with experience in Finite Element Analysis, aerodynamics, and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) using tools like MATLAB, ANSYS Mechanical APDL, and ANSYS Fluent.
