My job as an application engineer in the sales force is interesting because I am exposed to so many excellent engineering teams throughout the world. My job is to assess if MATLAB & Simulink can provide them advantage, and to reach agreement with them on this. It requires a mix of engineering skills with people and business skills. Having studied engineering very deeply, it surprises me how much I enjoy and appreciate how challenging business is, as the not-so-predictable and not-so-controllable elements of decision making and human behavior can dominate the business engagement.

As the Marketing Manager for communication products my key responsibility was in defining and supplying the most needed communication complements of the Saia PCD PLC system either as self developed solutions or via Buy-In or OEM. One of the most important components was the BACnet stack. In very close contact with both the development as well as the clienst and the certification bodies a highly innovative solution was found.

The main focus of our team was to develop complete controller solutions for Heating, Air conditioning, Ventillation and also for Cooling applications (HVAC) in the Siemens specific PLC system called Desigo PX. This not only required the algorithms selected to interact seamlessly but also that human operators and end user interactions were integrated appropriately. The role was development centric yet also had a marketing component as I needed to make sure our customers which were the field offices in the different countries received solutions specific to their markets.
