Silvio Mastruzzo

I am currently working at SELT S.r.l., one of the main suppliers of rigs and test equipment for Leonardo S.p.A.. I work on the design of electrical schematics for the AW101 MMI avionics rig (Italian Navy version) using Capital Logic, in close cooperation with Leonardo’s avionics system engineers to adapt the rig to their specific requirements for the reading and simulation of various signals, including ARINC 429, RS-422, MIL-STD-1553, and AFDX. Thanks to my strong engineering background and personal interest, I always approach my work with attention to the functioning of avionics systems, electrical circuits, and signal behaviour, sharing my knowledge with colleagues to increase their technical awareness. I am involved in the project through all its phases, following a system engineering approach — from the Preliminary Design Review (PDR) to the Critical Design Review (CDR), Acceptance Test Plan (ATP), Formal Qualification Review (FQR), and subsequent maintenance and modification activities. I manage and maintain the Bill of Materials (BOM) for the rig and I am currently working within Capital Logic to automate the generation of both cable from–to data and the BOM, with the goal of reducing errors, improving efficiency, and standardizing working files. I am also collaborating with Leonardo to automate the from–to generation for design modifications (was–become from–to). In addition, I share my previous experience with Capital Logic and the design of electrical schematics for real helicopter avionics with my colleagues, helping to ensure more homogeneous and standardized electrical design processes across both rigs and operational aircraft. Finally, I strive to align our work with the Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles required by Leonardo, supporting a more integrated and model-driven design approach.

As a consultant with Accenture for Leonardo Helicopters, I supported the Avionics Test & Integration Department during the transition from traditional 2D CAD tools to Capital Logic. I worked on adapting the real helicopter design processes to the avionics test rigs, defining a complete design-to-production workflow to increase the consistency and standardization of design practices between the rigs and the actual helicopter.

I worked as a consultant for Leonardo Helicopters within the Electrical Installations Department, supporting the AW169 and NH90 programs. My activities included updating and revising electrical schematics using Capital Logic, creating and modifying 3D harness models in CATIA V4/V5, and managing documentation and design reviews through the PLM system Enovia. I also contributed to resolving critical cabling issues, such as chafing and mechanical or electrical interferences, ensuring compliance with design and safety requirements.
