Shivantha Mrsb
Consultant Gastroenterologist @ BERKSHIRE MEDICAL CENTER - BERKSHIRE CAMPUS
About
I am an adult Gastroenterologist with extensive training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, having spent the past seven years in New York managing a wide array of gastrointestinal conditions. I believe exceptional patient care begins with truly listening. Each individual has a unique story, and understanding their concerns, goals, and values forms the foundation for compassionate, personalized care. I strive to create a collaborative environment where patients feel empowered to ask questions and actively participate in their treatment plans. My goal is not only to treat illness but also to equip my patients with the knowledge and tools to lead healthier lives. The Berkshires drew me in with its vibrant community, rich culture, and stunning natural beauty. Berkshire Medical Center’s dedication to innovation and teamwork resonates deeply with my passion for advancing healthcare and medical education. I hope to share my extensive experience in teaching the future generation of healthcare providers in New York and to bring forth these initiatives to BMC. Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with my wife and our Corgi, Duke. I have a deep appreciation for the outdoors, with hobbies including kayaking, paddleboarding, ATV riding, and skiing. My wife and I share a love for good food and value a healthy, joyful relationship with dining, often exploring new restaurants together. Being part of this community is a privilege. I am committed to delivering compassionate, state-of-the-art care and building meaningful connections with the patients and families I serve.

The fellowship program is based in Staten Island, New York, and includes two large campuses with 668 beds. There is a particular emphasis on teaching conferences in radiology, pathology, endoscopy, journal clubs, inter-hospital case presentations (between Lenox Hill Hospital and North-Shore Long Island Jewish Hospital Center), multi-disciplinary tumor boards, and morbidity/mortality conferences. Due to the convenient location of Staten Island, we also manage a diverse patient population (from New York, New Jersey, and Northern Philadelphia) with a broad spectrum of gastrointestinal and liver diseases. In addition, the patients are from various backgrounds ranging from the inner city to medically underserved areas and immigrant populations, including the elderly. Furthermore, trainees benefit from direct supervision by a dedicated Hepatologist, IBD & Motility specialists, and Advanced endoscopists.

Two extensive campuses serve as the home of six-hundred-plus beds for the academic residency program in Staten Island, New York. Education

Medicine
In the last eight years, St. George's University, Grenada, has been a leading provider of US residency positions, with a placement rate of 93%. I was offered an international student scholarship based on academic excellence to pursue my medical school training. In recognition of my academic achievements, I was inducted into the Iota, Epsilon Alpha Internal Medical Honor Society, USA, as well as the Arnold P. Gold Foundation's Gold Humanism Honor Society, USA

Biology
My desire to establish a solid foundation in biological sciences led me to MMU. Leadership, teamwork, communication, public speaking, and analytical thinking reached new heights during my undergraduate years. In addition to teaching and striving for academic excellence, I was awarded an honorary induction into the Royal Society of Biology (UK) after being the top biosciences student each of my three years (and graduating with first-class honors). My passion for education led me to develop a Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL) group system for students. As PAL president, I helped fellow students with group studies and coursework, especially those with dyslexia. In recognition of my efforts during my undergraduate years, the British Council of the UK recognized me as a "highly commended student" at the Shine International Student Awards
