Shiva Emami

As a dedicated Public Health Researcher, I have been involved in multiple projects aimed at improving health outcomes in underserved populations. My work has spanned across a variety of areas, from physical activity interventions in rural communities to exploring the potential benefits of alternative therapies for chronic disease management. Key Projects: Deep South IVR-supported Active Lifestyle (DIAL) Intervention Funded by the National Cancer Institute, this 18-month study provided physical activity phone counseling to participants in rural Alabama. I played a central role in organizing and analyzing intervention adherence and physical activity data. Additionally, I created and designed monthly newsletters and assessment reminder postcards to enhance engagement and compliance. I also had the opportunity to present our findings at the National Conference of Undergraduate Research, showcasing the impact of the intervention. Cardiac Rehabilitation Systematic Review For this project, I contributed to a comprehensive literature review on cardiac rehabilitation, creating visual figures, charts, and diagrams to summarize data and key findings. My involvement helped streamline the research process and supported the overall writing of the article. Yoga for Diabetes Management Study I drafted a research proposal exploring the potential therapeutic role of yoga in managing diabetes. This project involved structuring the study and developing a strategic plan to investigate yoga’s effects on improving health outcomes in diabetic patients. My expertise extends to data management platforms like REDCap and ActiLife, where I regularly enter and analyze participant data. Throughout my research career, I have remained committed to promoting evidence-based health interventions that make a tangible difference in underserved communities.

While attending university full-time, I started and successfully ran an Etsy shop, showcasing my creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. I designed and hand-crafted original items such as jewelry, resin art, and candles, all of which reflected my unique artistic vision. In addition to product creation, I managed all aspects of the business, from order fulfillment to customer support. I ensured timely and efficient packing and shipping of orders, maintaining a high standard of customer satisfaction. I also developed the shop's branding and aesthetics, curating a cohesive and appealing visual identity that resonated with customers. Through consistent communication and excellent customer service, I built lasting relationships with buyers, which contributed to the shop's growth and positive reviews. This experience sharpened my skills in time management, creative problem-solving, and business operations, all while balancing a full academic schedule.

As a server and hostess, I gained valuable experience in customer service, hospitality, and team collaboration. My role involved greeting and seating guests, providing attentive and friendly service, and ensuring a welcoming atmosphere. I took pride in developing positive relationships with regular customers, contributing to a loyal customer base. In addition to serving, I managed front-of-house operations, including organizing and cleaning the space before and after service hours to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and readiness for the next shift. This experience strengthened my communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while delivering excellent service.
