The New Optical Image Club is a student senate college club active in community outreach in New Mexico. Students are allowed to practice and gain organization skills in planning health care initiatives to promote healthy sight within Native American Communities. The New Optical Image club has gained recognition by Seva’s International Sight Program (www.seva.org). Seva has identified SIPI's Vision Care Technology Program as one that delivers stellar education to Native American Students. In support of the continuance of quality education, Seva gives the general public an opportunity to "Train an American Indian Vision Technician" as part of Seva’s "Give a Gift". Support goes to students preparing and taking a National Certification test to solidify their future as a health care worker in the field of vision.

Board Member Chairperson, Public Relations: Assists with providing New Mexico's ophthalmic career field with professional development to meet National Certification continuing education requirements. Continued enhancement of organizational direction, industry networking to ensure current technologies and training will be available to OANM members. Oversees the planning and organization of the OANM Annual Education Conference (Oct. 25, 2014- ABQ NM). Establishes non-bias application procedures, and editor of an annual newsletter for all members of the association. Public relations representative trained to bring member issues to board agenda. Industry research conducted through survey questionnaires, documentation of responses, and neutral presentation to Board of the OANM.

* The National Federation of Opticianry (NFOS) recently elected new officers at its 2014 annual business meeting, which was held in Dallas. The new officers include the following: president, Robert J. Russo, chairman of the Department of Vision Care Technology * vice president, Kimberly Strickler, New York City College of Technology * secretary, Sheri Red Shirt, Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute * treasurer, Sheldon O’Guinn, Tri-Service Optician School * executive director, Randy Smith, Baker College * and past president, Kristi Green, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. The National Federation of Opticianry Schools is an association of opticianry schools dedicated to facilitating the development of formal educational programs in identified areas of need * upgrading the standards of opticianry education * facilitating the exchange of teaching methods * working for the uniformity of formal education in opticianry * and aiding other national opticianry associations as deemed mutually beneficial.

Department of Defense (USAF National Guard Bureau) Served as the functional manager representative for the Optometry Specialty Career Field (4VOX1) titled "Subject Matter Expert", appointed by the Office of the Air Surgeon to assist in the development and maintenance of the USAF Optometry/ Ophthalmology Career Field. Assisted as a consult by the ANG Bureau in the review career education training plans and training evaluation requirements related to Optometry Technicians serving in the USAF Ophthalmic Career Field.
