Shengrong Du, Ph.D.
Laboratory Manager @ Polymer Processors Pty Ltd
About
I have worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher, following my PhD in Engineering at Monash University. I have over eight years of experience in a polymer chemistry laboratory, six years of experience in biomedical devices, seven years of experience in project management, and more than one year of experience in team management in the industry. My last role was R&D Project Manager specialising in project management, innovative designing, technical coordination, and cross-functional collaboration. I helped develop a new type of 3D printing technology and translated this into prototypes. I am one of the inventors of several patents related to this work.

Mordialloc, Victoria, Australia
• Oversee daily laboratory operations to ensure efficiency and compliance with safety standards. • Develop, implement, and enforce laboratory policies, procedures, and protocols. • Maintain and manage laboratory equipment, ensuring calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting as needed. • Prepare and update risk assessments (RAs), standard operating procedures (SOPs), and safe work instructions (SWIs). • Ensure all experiments and processes comply with industry standards and regulations. • Commission and validate new instruments and laboratory workflows. • Interpret experimental data and generate comprehensive technical reports as required. • Supervise and mentor laboratory staff, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement. • Train staff on laboratory techniques, equipment usage, and safety protocols. • Assign tasks and manage workload distribution to optimise productivity. • Coordinate cross-functional collaboration between different departments. • Liaise with external suppliers, vendors, and service providers for equipment procurement and maintenance. • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on laboratory testing goals and deliverables. • Develop and implement quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) protocols.

Lab Technician and Data Analyst
Mordialloc, Victoria, Australia
• Improved laboratory efficiency by streamlining sample collection, processing procedures, and reporting systems. • Ensured successful research outcomes through precise data analysis and interpretation, providing valuable insights to internal stakeholders. • Conducted routine quality control checks to ensure the accuracy of test results and uphold laboratory standards. • Investigated and tested new products from external clients, delivering detailed results and professional recommendations. • Troubleshot equipment malfunctions, minimising downtime, and maintaining optimal functionality. • Assisted in commissioning new equipment into the laboratory. • Developed standard operating procedures (SOPs) for both existing and new equipment in compliance with ASTM and ISO standards. • Collaborated with cross-functional teams, including production, engineering, marketing, and management, to address quality issues, implement process improvements, and support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance overall laboratory and production performance. • Maintained a safe and organised laboratory environment, strictly adhering to safety protocols.

R&D Project Manager
Guangzhou, Guangdong, China
• Led more than 20 engineers to launch and execute R&D projects to develop new 3D printing technologies. • Identified plans and resources required to meet project goals and objectives. • Developed and implemented project plans and budgets to ensure successful execution. • Allocated tasks to different engineers, such as software engineers, electrical engineers, material engineers, etc. • Monitored project performance and analysed project performance data to identify areas of improvement. • Tracked project and team member performance closely to quickly intervene in case of delays. • Coordinated cross-functional teams to resolve project issues and mitigate risks. • Negotiated and managed third-party contracts related to project deliverables. • Achieved project deadlines by coordinating contractors. • Provided detailed technical and operational direction in project challenges, consistently meeting deliverables according to deadlines. • Scheduled and facilitated meetings between project stakeholders to discuss deliverables, schedules, and conflicts. • Reported regularly to managers on project budgets, progress, and technical issues.

Postdoctoral Researcher
Wellington Rd, Clayton, VIC, 3800
• Collaborated with multidisciplinary team members to accomplish animal study research goals using highly porous 3D-printed polymer scaffolds developed from PhD studies and mouse cranial critical size defect surgery models from collaborators. • Contributed to and actively participated in research conception, design, and execution to address defined problems. • Maintained accurate records of research findings and provided statistical analysis of data. • Attended research seminars and meetings to discover and discuss new technologies and research. • Liaised with supervisor to develop potential publications. • Enforced laboratory safety protocols and enabled a safe work environment.

Sessional Teaching Associate
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Worked as a demonstrator to assist A/Prof. Noel Rutter with a unit (MTE2541 - crystal structures, thermodynamics, and phase equilibria), and helped students with practical experiments on metallic sample preparation and optical microscopy observation.
Education

Engineering
• Managed and completed three projects which were designed to optimise different biomaterials for different 3D printing technologies. • Mastered a broad range of characterisation methods related to 3D-printed polymer scaffolds and associated morphological, mechanical, chemical, and biological aspects, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), mercury porosimetry, mechanical testing, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), in vitro evaluation in mammalian cell culture, etc. • Collaborated with Dr. Dr. Oliver Bissinger in Germany to conduct the animal study for 3D-printed PCL scaffolds using a mouse mandible critical size defect model.
