About
I am passionate about the power of the spoken and written word, and to that end, have dedicated myself to the constant upgrading of my abilities in both performance of the spoken and written word, as well as the teaching of it! My real talent lies in my voice work. I have been a disc jockey for several music formats, done digital looping, voice overs for industrial training films, broadcast journalism as anchor and reporter, and been the voice for thousands advertisements. I have also done voice work on audio books as well as character voices and accents! I love to freelance! I have done freelance magazine writing for Maui,Inc., Boating Hawaii and stringer pieces for Gannet-owned Honolulu Star-Bulletin. Have also done voice and writing stringer work for the Canadian Broadcasting Company and ABC News. In 1989, I added teacher to my resume and fell in LOVE with young people! In high schools on Maui and in Colorado, I honed my editing and reviewing skills as well as teaching creative writing. Perhaps this is cliched, but young people are our future and investing in them is the most important thing we can do! I'm hard-working, constantly pushing myself to be the best I can be. I actually held down two jobs, one as a teacher and the other as a broadcaster from 1989 to 2011! Teaching, writing, editing, reviewing, theatrical directing, on-air talent, voice production, audio books--it's what I live and breathe! Let me go to work for you!

International Baccalaureate instructor
Air Academy District 20
When I began as the IB Theatre Arts instructor, I had already been teaching drama and directing school productions for almost 6 years. I received level three training (highly unusual in Colorado Springs) and while the instructor, I also directed and mentored student directors in three dramatic productions a year. After 7 years in that position, I trained (highest training, again, at level three) and began teaching the flagship class in the IB curriculum: Theory of Knowledge. I eventually was hired by the home IB office in Wales to become a TOK examiner, meaning I would moderation, examination and scoring final essays submitted by IB participants from all over the world. During this time, I also served as an extended essay mentor for a large number of IB candidates. EE is a like a mini-master's thesis in an original area of study.

Education

Humanities/Humanistic Studies
Master's candidate in both the Southwestern Studies program and the Humanities program. Courses included emphasis on arts and culture of the American Southwest and humanities emphasis on utopian/dystopian society and psychology of emotion.

Secondary Classroom Education, 6-12
Graduated from program designed to address critical teacher shortage on Neighbor Islands in Hawaii. Participants selected,on basis undergraduate degrees and subsequent career experience. For example, my degree was in English, and I had worked for 12 years in the broadcast industry as a journalist, writer, producer and voice talent. Chaminade incorporated that experience as credit and added it to the two years of classes required for certification. Net result: I was actually teaching English at Maui High School before I had completed my licensure program!

Educating the exceptional student
Graduated from what was then one of the first distance learning programs instituted by the University of Hawaii. Attended classes held on Maui campus, taught by Oahu UH instructors. Completed courses in the top 5 percent of my class.
