Shannon Dwynwen

I hold a first class honours degree in Biomedical Science, with my 3rd year project making use of induced pluripotent stem cell models to investigate p62 expression and its use as an autophagy marker in Batten disease. I completed a Nuffield Bursary placement at Oxford University in 2011, where I spent two months investigating correlations between genetic alleles and multiple sclerosis spinal cord pathology and was named as a co-author in a resulting research paper published in ‘Brain’ neurological journal. This also contributed to research presented at the 64th American Academy of Neurology Annual Meeting. Other achievements include receiving a gold CREST award for the above research, achieving academic honours at school in South Africa and winning Oxfordshire Biologist of the Year Award in my AS year at college. I am currently employed as a specialist biomedical scientist in haematology and transfusion at Arrowe Park Hospital.
