Human Rights Education and Elections Expert. Core senior team member responsible for executing 4 general elections (2009, 2011, 2014, 2016 & 2019) and experienced national head of Civic Education, Research & Knowledge Management at the Electoral Commission of South Africa. Specialist on areas of inclusion/equality and empowerment related to gender and gender mainstreaming, race, disability, language, culture and other grounds of precarity, with demonstrated history of working in anti-racism and anti-sexism since 1988. Human rights expert and educator with nearly 18 years of experience in national human rights institutions and in entrenching a universal culture of democracy and human rights. I lecture in the University of South Africa’s (UNISA) Programme in the Management of Democratic Elections in Africa (MDEA), run by the Institute of African Renaissance Studies in partnership with the IEC. The objective is to professionalise and develop expertise in election management for Election Management Bodies (EMBs) in Africa.

Headed a team of 9 editors, translators and correlators. Edited, proofread, quality-controlled and finalised all Senior Certificate examination and assessment material. Worked across the curriculum with all subject offerings at Senior Certificate (matriculation) level within the GDE, adopting an anti-bias/anti-discrimination approach. The position required a working knowledge of the Senior Certificate examination system, the NQF, Curriculum 2005, Outcomes Based Education (OBE) and Outcomes Based Assessment (OBA) and the development and implementation of assessment policy and practice. Also trained and advised examiners and internal moderators.
