Creative Colony is a coworking space for creative professionals, run by creative professionals. We foster a collaborative community where people can grow their businesses independently, but not alone. Creative Colony is located in downtown Silver Spring, MD. As a creative small business owner, I often collaborate with other creative professionals in order to better serve my clients, as well as go after bigger and better business. As I thought about next steps for my business, I ultimately came to the thought, "wouldn't it be great if the other creative professionals that I partner with shared the same workspace, giving us the opportunity to collaborate easily." Where you find refuge when you need to stay a while. We understand that those in need of temporary furnished housing, whether they are traveling for work or needing to stay close to an ill loved one, not only need a safe place to call home, but they need a refuge. After a long day of serving, giving, leading, and strategizing, people need a place of relief or escape—a place to recharge mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. We have that need in mind as we carefully select and furnish our temporary homes for those who need to stay longer than 30 days.

We are creating a refuge for people who have been hurt by religion to experience Jesus in a way that allows them to rediscover faith through supportive community and engaging content. We train ministry partners to create healthy places of refuge and belonging.

Built a new youth ministry for the church. Responsible for developing and providing leadership, direction, and oversight for a comprehensive youth ministry for middle and high school students that will minister to youth at The Bridge and reach those in our community that are unsaved and unchurched.

I’m a brand strategist who is passionate about helping ministries and nonprofits advance the gospel and serve those in need. Sometimes my best role is to be a consultant, facilitating and implementing key brand strategies. And sometimes clients need me to be a coach who will guide them, educate them, hold them accountable, and encourage them spiritually.

Developed a curriculum and teach the course "Effective Web Design and Strategy" in the Master of Arts in Communications program, focused on website design, usability, content strategy and search engine optimization.

Shala served as a project manager at The Caraway Group Inc. in Washington, DC, working on the Microsoft Youth IT Challenge, a signature program that taught high school students how to create a viable business plan. While there, she designed the YITC identity and developed the YITC SharePoint website. She oversaw the program in four cities (New York, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Washington, DC), managing over 12 people. Shala also created and implemented the student recruitment and selection plans for 9 cities nationwide.

Graduated summa cum laude and top of the undergraduate class for the Division of Fine Arts.
