Directs & coordinates operational activities of transportation logistics by performing the following duties; Investigate & plan the most appropriate route for a shipment, taking account of the perishable or hazardous nature of the goods, cost, transit time & security. Arrange appropriate packing, taking account of climate, terrain, weight, nature of goods & cost, & the delivery & warehousing of goods at their final destination. Negotiate contracts, transportation & handling costs. Obtain, check & prepare documents to meet customs & insurance requirements, packing specifications, & compliance with overseas countries regulations & fiscal regimes. Offer consolidation services by air, sea & road - ensuring cost effective & secure solutions to small shippers with insufficient cargo to require their own dedicated units. Arrange air transport for urgent & high-value freight & manage the risk door to door. Work closely with customers, colleagues & third parties to ensure smooth operations to deadlines. Utilize e-commerce, internet technology, & satellite systems to enable real-time tracking of goods. Maintain current knowledge of relevant legislation, political situations & other factors that could impact the movement of freight. Maintain communication & control through all phases of the journey, including the production of management reports & statistical & unit cost analysis. Coordinate dock layout for optimum usage.
