MD and clinical fellowship from the University of Rome. PhD in Experimental Medicine from the University of Siena, completed at UCSF. Postdoctoral work at the Gladstone Institutes of UCSF. Full academic career as clinical and research faculty at Vanderbilt University (assistant professor in endocrinology, associate and full professor in cardiology, director of preventive cardiology, director of lipid laboratory, endowed chair in medicine) followed by Seven years as professor of medicine, endowed chair in medicine, and director of preventive cardiology at Oregon Health & Science University. Founder and first editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Preventive Cardiology. Past president of the American Board of Clinical Lipidology. Joined Regeneron in 2020 as first member of its newly designed scientific council and chair of the section on cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Contributing to genetic and biologic target identification, progression of pipeline molecules, exploratory analyses of different datasets (from clinical trials, epidemiologic studies, claim-based cohorts, and electronic health records), clinical development, and regulatory considerations.
