Bringing cellular immunotherapy to reality. I'm a biomedical scientist working in immunology and stem cell research. I've always been curious about how biological processes lead to health or disease. I love to integrate knowledge to build a picture of the subject. That's why I engage in different disciplines and in different techniques, in vivo, in vitro or in silico. That's also why I'm convinced that collaboration and clear communication in interdisciplinary teams is key. During my PhD research, I studied the role of scavenger receptors in autoimmune diseases and cancer. This included the following projects: - CD5 and CD6 expression and genetic variation in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). - CD5, CD6 and ALCAM genetic variation in prostate cancer. - CD5, CD6 and ALCAM genetic variation in Sjögren's syndrome. - Impact of genetic variation in immune cell transcriptome. I addressed them at multiple levels: in vitro (molecular biology, cellular immunology, genetic engineering), in vivo (animal models) and in silico (database studies). It was a good chance for me to lead complex experimental designs involving multiple teams, and to collaborate with many partners. This includes the Gastroenterology lab at the DBM-Basel Universitätsspital (Switzerland), the IBD, prostate cancer and autoimmune disease research groups at IDIBAPS/Hospital Clínic, and the Spanish working group in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis (GETECCU).
