Semanthika Reddy Karri

I serve as a Research Assistant to Dr. Elizabeth Ransom, contributing to projects focused on post-catastrophe food security and facilitating simulations for graduate students. My primary strengths lie in research, analytics, monitoring, reporting, and knowledge management.

Position Vision: Semanthika hopes to maximize the potential of the Education Chair role in order to foster a collaborative environment among students in which she hopes to advocate for the needs of her fellow SIA cohort. Bio: Semantika graduated from St. Francis College in India with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Mass Communication. Semanthika augmented her interest in education by volunteering with a variety of organizations. She has always been drawn towards leadership roles and activities, having served as the school's head prefect in high school. This role aided in the development of her overall personality and paved the way for her future goals. She worked as a Special Mentor for children with Learning Disabilities, assisting them with their needs and guiding them towards appropriate resources. Where she received recognition for making a positive difference in the students' lives. Semanthika believes strongly in equal rights and opportunities, so she pursued her interest in education through educating rural women and girls in India. As part of her goal, she focused on women's health rights, public speaking, and safety rights. Her commitment to educational rights was acknowledged by the Rotary Club of India, which invited her to speak about inclusive education and women's educational rights. Semantika is currently employed by the School of International Affairs as a Student Programme Coordinator. Her job entails assisting the school for organizing and planning of events in collaboration with her superiors. As an international student, Semanthika can understand the difficulties that students face when adjusting to a new educational environment. She is grateful for the peer mentorship she received from her senior cohort in SIA. She wishes to reciprocate the same to the first year cohort while also establishing a collaborative ecosystem.

Assisting the school with organizing and planning of events in collaboration with the superiors

As part of my Capstone internship programme, I've interned with Telangana Women Safety Wing, Telangana Commissionerate, Telangana State, India from 11TH May 2023 – 24TH June 2023. The Telangana Women Safety Wing is a government department and a specialised unit within the Indian state of Telangana that is dedicated to ensuring women's safety, security, and empowerment. It is in charge of putting policies, programmes, and initiatives in place to address issues concerning women's safety, prevent violence against women, and promote gender equality. I have collaborated with a dedicated team of professionals to support initiatives aimed at preventing violence against women and promoting gender equity. Along with this, I worked on projects to prevent domestic violence, human trafficking and cybercrime. I also worked with the WSW’s new initiative, Sahas, which is a collaborative initiative to strengthen the ecosystem of support for women employees in workplaces across the State. SAHAS is a platform that aims towards Prevention of Sexual harassment at Workplace under POSH ACT 2013. I educated my self with tasks such as research into Table of Contents required to present amongst organisations and different hierarchies present in them. I also hold an experience e in cloud telephoning and as a chatbot executive through the internship. As part of the Domestic Violence Module under the WSW wing, I had the opportunity to visit family counselling centres and educate myself regarding the various tasks and procedures that take place. Working with the Women Safety Wing has given me a practical experience in the field of women's safety and empowerment. I had the opportunity to apply my theoretical knowledge to real-world situations, gain practical skills, and gain a better understanding of the challenges and complexities involved in addressing women's safety issues.
