Investigated the mechanisms underlying the protective role of ataxia telangiectasia and Rad3-related (ATR) kinase against calcium overload-induced necrosis, using the A549 cancer cell line as a model.

Demonstrated that the delayed ATP-elicited K+ current occurring in dissociated mouse aorta myocytes is a TASK-like current activated via PKC stimulation. Demonstrated that cAMP induces the generation of STOCs in dissociated mouse aorta myocytes via PKA activation.

Determined that purinergic receptor stimulation by extracellular ATP elicits a delayed K+ current in freshly dissociated smooth muscles from mouse thoracic aorta.

* Investigated the role of mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) activation in post-stroke * inflammatory response by using qRT-PCR to assess the mRNA expression of proinflammatory * markers in cortices of Spontaneously Hypertensive Stroke Prone Rats * SHRSP) that underwent 1 hour of middle cerebral artery occlusion followed by 14 days of * reperfusion, before being treated with either MR antagonist canrenoic acid or vehicle. * Investigated the role of high fat diet on dementia by assessing white matter damages in * stained brain sections from control rats and rats fed with a high fat diet.

I investigated the mechanisms underlying the modulation of KCNH and HCN ion channels using several methods: recording of channels expressed in xenopus oocytes via the patch-clamp and the two-electrode voltage clamp techniques, and use of the surface plasmon resonance method via a collaboration with the Department of Oncology of Georgetown University.

* Using HPLC, investigated the mechanisms underlying the release of purines in mouse and * human colon, including in presence of nerve stimulation via electrical filed stimulation, as well * as the mechanisms underlying release of purines in mouse bladder, including stretch-induced * release of purines. Also investigated the impact of aging on bladder function by * running behavioral voiding assays involving Young (3 months old) and Aged (22 months old) * mice.

* Developed a technique enabling to monitor via confocal imaging the release of endogenous ATP labelled with fluorescent marker quinacrine. * Demonstrated that mechanisms of constitutive and ATP-evoked release of ATP occur in live mouse neonatal olfactory epithelium slices. * Demonstrated that primary mouse olfactory epithelium cell cultures release ATP.
