R&D Manager @ NRGene Canada

About

I am a dedicated biologist with a robust background in genomics, focusing on the ecology, evolution, and conservation of diverse organisms. Throughout my career, I have held key positions, most recently as the Head Entomologist (Principal Investigator) at NRGene Canada Inc. In this role, I lead cutting-edge research on Black Soldier Fly variety creation, integrating genomics with deep phenotyping and software development to pioneer automation solutions, innovative breeding protocols, and precise selection programs for custom BSF varieties. My academic journey includes extensive doctoral research at the University of Saskatchewan, where I explored genomics and bird evolution in the Galapagos Islands. This work encompassed field sampling, advanced bioinformatics, and big data analysis, resulting in significant scientific publications and deep expertise in Whole-Genome Analysis. Additionally, as a teaching assistant, I facilitated engaging laboratory sessions in biology and microscopy, fostering a solid foundational understanding in students. At the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, with over 14 years of continuous involvement, I have consistently honed my research and teaching skills. Currently, I am active in my Lecturer position at PUCE, where I continue to enhance my teaching abilities by delivering courses ranging from basic to advanced levels. Simultaneously, I am engaged in developing new research proposals, applying genomics to unravel the complexities of ecology, evolution, and conservation across a wide array of organisms.
