Lead M&E Estimator
Scotland, United Kingdom
Leading Commercial Estimator with extensive experience delivering accurate, competitive, and strategic cost solutions across a wide range of sectors in Scotland. In addition to day-to-day tendering, I play a key role in identifying new business opportunities and engaging directly with end users and main contractors to discuss, negotiate, and secure future workloads. I regularly produce high-level cost plans for diverse project types and have developed strong working relationships with main contractors, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers. My portfolio includes the successful costing of hospitals, education facilities, office fit-outs, and sports stadiums. My role at TClarke has also provided opportunities to collaborate with senior management across multiple industries, strengthening my commercial awareness and enhancing my ability to deliver value-driven solutions on complex projects.

RDS Firefighter
Bathgate, Scotland, United Kingdom
As an on-call firefighter, I respond to emergency incidents during evenings and weekends alongside my primary employment. I attend a wide range of emergencies, including house fires, road traffic collisions, medical emergencies, and most recently cardiac arrest calls. My responsibilities vary on each callout, from driving the appliance to operating as a breathing apparatus wearer. I have served at both Broxburn and Bathgate Stations, and during my time at Broxburn I was promoted to Crew Manager. In this leadership role, I led training exercises, coordinated crews during incidents, and supported team readiness and development. I also took on the additional role of Youth Instructor, working with young people aged 13–18 who are interested in the fire service. I delivered structured training similar to new recruit programmes, helping young people build confidence, discipline, and teamwork skills. This role has given me significant life experience, including working effectively under pressure, supporting people in distress, carrying out dynamic risk assessments, and operating as part of a highly coordinated team. I continue to enjoy my work with the fire service and regularly participate in drill nights and ongoing training to maintain operational competence.

M&E Manager
JLCom
Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom
I joined JLcom to establish and build the mechanical arm of the business, complementing the company’s established electrical division and FM team. In this role, I was responsible for business development, tendering, supply chain management, and full project delivery. As the department was newly formed, I secured a sustainable work pipeline and subsequently recruited and developed a site team to deliver projects to a high standard. Working closely with the Managing Director, I contributed to strategic planning for business growth and operational development. In addition to leading the projects division, I also took over management of the FM department, overseeing reactive breakdowns and PPM activities. A major milestone during my time with JLcom was securing a significant private hospital project—the company’s largest single project to date. I also gained substantial experience in bid and proposal writing for high-value, complex tenders, including submissions for the Scottish Prison Service and NHS, which required detailed technical responses and comprehensive evidence gathering.

Mechanical Estimator
Mcgill
Joining McGill allowed me to work on larger and more complex projects, with values reaching up to £10 million. These projects ranged from major office developments and hospital works to boiler house renewals. My role involved regular engagement with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, as well as carrying out detailed site surveys. During this time, I developed deeper expertise in interpreting complex technical drawings and extracting key information from technical specifications. I also took on a mentoring role, supporting the development of a trainee estimator within the team. I further expanded my ICT skill set, gaining experience with specialist estimating software to produce accurate cost assessments, alongside daily use of Excel, Word and Outlook. I left this position due to the company becoming insolvent.

Mechanical Estimator
Livingston, Scotland, United Kingdom
As an Estimator, I am responsible for the tendering of mechanical works on large industrial projects. This involves reviewing and interpreting technical drawings, completing detailed take-offs, and obtaining accurate pricing from relevant subcontractors and suppliers. Once quotations are received, I carry out cost–benefit analyses to determine the most commercially viable options before compiling and submitting a fully costed tender to clients. Following a successful tender outcome, I often work with clients to identify value engineering opportunities and review potential cost savings prior to handover to the project management team. In this role, I have gained enhanced ICT skills and expanded my technical knowledge across a wide range of mechanical disciplines, including emerging renewable technologies. I have also developed hands-on project management experience through overseeing smaller-scale projects from award through to completion. Working to strict deadlines is a core part of the role, and I consistently ensure accuracy, attention to detail and strong commercial awareness throughout the tender process.

Training Development Advisor
Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom
As a Training Adviser at B.E.S.T, I was responsible for monitoring and supporting the progress of up to 100 apprentices within the mechanical sector. This involved conducting regular progress reviews on-site and at colleges, ensuring coursework was up to date, and liaising closely with college tutors, apprentices, and line managers. I assessed candidates for employers, carried out large written assessments within colleges, and delivered health and safety inductions to new trainees. Additionally, I promoted apprenticeships at careers events and to companies not currently employing apprentices. This role developed my ICT skills, time management, and ability to work independently. Effective communication was essential, allowing me to engage with apprentices, tradespeople, and senior management alike. I also identified apprentices facing challenges and implemented support plans to help them succeed, enhancing both their personal and professional development. Through this position, I honed key interpersonal skills, building strong relationships across different levels of stakeholders while supporting the growth of the next generation of mechanical professionals.

Heating Engineer
Livingston, Scotland, United Kingdom
I began my career as an apprentice Heating Engineer before progressing to a tradesman role within the company. My work spanned both building site projects and the maintenance and repairs department, focusing on the installation and servicing of heating and plumbing systems in large commercial buildings. During this time, I developed pipe fitting and welding skills, honed problem-solving abilities to locate and repair system faults, and gained experience collaborating with various trades and members of the public. Teamwork and effective communication were central to delivering projects successfully. This role provided me with extensive hands-on experience using a range of machinery and hand tools, establishing a strong foundation in practical trade skills and mechanical systems.
