Savar Shirbhate
CFD Solver/Mesh Development Engineer @ Dassault Systèmes
About
Aerospace Engineer focused on aerodynamics, thermo-fluidics, multi-physics simulation, and optimization-driven systems design. My work spans CFD, thermal-fluid modeling, optimal control, and multidisciplinary design analysis (MDAO) for aerospace and high-performance engineering systems. I use simulation not just to evaluate designs, but to guide architecture decisions through Python-based optimization frameworks, statistical methods, and systems engineering (MBSE) approaches.I have experience developing reduced-order models, implementing DOE-driven optimization pipelines, building solver-level tools in C++, and integrating physics-based models into multidisciplinary workflows. My interests lie in combining aerodynamics, control, and computation to create scalable engineering decision-making frameworks.

Experience

CFD Solver/Mesh Development Engineer
Boston, MA
- Developed C++/Qt geometry preprocessing features in SIMULIA PowerFLOW for mesh cleanup, simplification, and oriented bounding box operations, improving mesh quality for LBM CFD simulations. - Built Python automation and Linux-based test pipelines to evaluate parallel discretization algorithms on HPC systems, enabling scalable validation of meshing workflows. - Executed end-to-end LBM CFD simulations for surface thermal conduction in engine and brake components, refining preprocessing and thermal setup for large-scale simulations.

Graduate Research Assistant
Atlanta, GA
Designed systems-level analysis of aircraft emissions pathways for NASA, prioritizing key stakeholders and components using Design of Experiments (DoE) and table-top assessments through dashboards to support net-zero aviation initiatives. Prior work includes designing a multi-module optimization system for the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) in an OpenMDAO-based multidisciplinary design optimization framework for Air Force Research Laboratory, enabling subsystem trade studies and performance optimization for tactical mobility aircraft.

Technology Development Intern
Houston, TX
Worked as a SLB Surface Production proposals team, in-charge of setting up new engineering projects and working on conceptual designs, vendor information collections and project baselining for new projects or updating existing designs and equipment.

Graduate Teaching Assistant
Atlanta, GA
Assisted in teaching ME-1670 (Introduction to Engineering Design) with Dr. Dorozhkin at Georgia Institute of Technology. Collaborated with faculty from the Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering and the Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering.

Flight Design and Development Engineer
Tiruchirappalli
Design and development of aircraft structure and controls for competitive flying. Involving stability, material and flow analysis and iterative flying designs. Also dealing in electronics linked to the stable flying conditions. Worked on multiple competitions and projects relating to aircraft design and analysis for efficient flight flow and development.

Winter Research Intern
Kerala, India
Worked on the simulation and discrete-adjoint based optimization of hyper-sonic inlets of scramjets to increase thrust produced. Research was done to increase the air-breathing efficiency of the system by optimizing air compression and flow.

DAAD - WISE Researcher
Aachen
DAAD-Cohort, 2022. Worked on flight performance characteristics created due to an oscillating flap on an airfoil and studying the improvement in efficiency that it would have due to the oscillations. System Analysis was done using CFD through tools like Centaur Meshing and DLR-TAU.

The project involves the formation of vortex rings using various nozzle designs to modify the properties like velocity and circulation of the rings and making coaxial rings of same or different properties to collide. The results of the collision in therms of geometric and dynamic properties are being analysed. The radius growth, vorticity profiles, dynamic coupling and minor vortex rings were analysed with time during the period of collission.

Summer Researcher
Tiruchirappalli
Worked on the design, modelling and analysis for an optimised valve mechanism to increase dynamic life of the components as a part of a consultancy project for an engine manufacturing company. The internship involved designing optimised components for the valve train mechanism, and running Finite Element Analysis on them for modal analysis, failure testing and local stress and impact measurement through SOLIDWORKS and ANSYS Mechanical.

Mechanical Engineering Intern
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Worked and studied the dependence of structure, space and materials to heat generation within closed spaces. Used these details to learn HAP Software and subsequently used that to give design specifications in HVAC structures.
