During my postdoctoral training with Prof. David Baker, I developed the first method for accurate design of protein binders. Applied to a conserved site on influenza hemagglutinin, our designs inhibited a wide range of pathogenic influenza strains, demonstrating that de novo design of function may have practical uses.
