Sarah Brough
Director of Membership @ Alpha Kappa Psi
About
Hi! I am currently a third-year student triple-majoring in Finance, Risk Management Insurance, and Business Analytics & Information Systems at the University of Iowa. I am involved in the Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity along with Tippie Business Honor Society and Tippie Tech. I am currently employed as an Administrative Assistant for the University of Iowa CLAS Dean’s Office, and work as a Discover Guide for new Tippie direct admit students in their weekly Direct Admit Seminar. I was admitted into the university’s college of business as a direct admit. In order to do so, I had to reach certain requirements and qualifications that aren’t needed when getting into the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Being active with schoolwork and activities has helped me take up many lifelong skills. I strive to be successful in everything I am involved in, which means going to extremes to improve my work and expertise. I am determined to further my ambition for success at the university and beyond.

Experience

Assistant Director of Membership
I was nominated an elected for this role by my fellow fraternity brothers. Throughout the summer and fall 2025 semester, I worked alongside the Director of Membership to create a smooth transition for our new members into fully initiated, active members. We met each Sunday evening with our 30 new members after creating weekly lesson plans to improve their professional development and expand their knowledge on the fraternity. After 8 weeks of mentoring, the Director and I successfully we able to initiate our 30 new members. I was promoted to Director of Membership for the following semester, leading a brand new new member class through the new member process.

Director of Alumni Relations
Iowa City, Iowa, United States
I was nominated and elected for the Alumni Relations Director and I started my role in January of 2025. Through this role, I update our alumni database, adding contact and position information of recent graduates from our chapter. I also manage our private LinkedIn page for our current members to connect with alumni and promote internship and job opportunities. At the end of the semester, I organized a special senior sendoff for our May 2025 graduates by distributing our fraternity flower and graduation cords at a ceremony for our graduates. Aside from my individual tasks, I collaborate weekly with other executive board members to further benefit the future of the fraternity.

Administrative Assistant
I am currently employed as an Administrative Assistant for the University of Iowa CLAS Dean’s Office. For my position, I greet guests at the front desk with a welcoming manner, send and respond to emails for CLAS via Outlook, schedule meeting times and events for the office by Outlook Calendar, make sure our amenities are stocked and ready for our guests, and assist other employees in the office with tasks they may have. These projects are both random and reoccurring, and have helped me develop my skills outside of the classroom.

Entrepreneur
SKB Designs
Park Ridge, Illinois, United States
In 2020, I was given the opportunity to work on my school's embroidery machine. Over the course of a few months, I taught myself how to master the ins and outs of embroidery while on lockdown. I then took my knowledge to start my own small business, where I sell embroidered sweatshirts, towels, robes, tshirts, and more. After the embroidery is finished, I wash, wrap, and deliver the garments to my customers.

Discover Guide
As a Discover Guide for the Tippie Direct Admit Seminar, I lead two classes of 65+ first-year business students twice weekly while collaborating with fellow mentors on lesson planning. I support students in their transition to college by guiding them through degree audits, course scheduling, and campus involvement, while also providing professional development support in areas such as résumé building, interview preparation, and business etiquette. This role has strengthened my leadership, public speaking, and mentorship skills while helping new students thrive within the Tippie community.

Shift Leader
Triple Scoop'd Ice Cream Shop
Park Ridge, Illinois, United States
When I first started at Triple Scoop'd, I was just working as a shop employee, who are in charge of scooping ice cream and taking care of customers. After about a year of working, I was promoted to a shift leader. Being a shift leader requires greater responsibilities compared to a shop employee. As a shift leader, I open and close shop each shift, had to obtain my ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification, manage financial transactions, and supervise employees
