Sarah Mayes, Ph.D.

I co-founded Alafair Biosciences and currently serve as the company's CSO. I co-invented Alafair's proprietary technology, commercially available as VersaWrap®, and hold several patents in the material science field. I oversee clinical, R&D, QA/RA, product development, and manufacturing activities. I earned a PhD in biomedical engineering from UT-Austin and an MS in material science & engineering from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. VersaWrap® is an FDA-cleared medical device implant (not tissue) comprising hyaluronic acid (HA) and alginate that provides a gelatinous encasement for peripheral nerves, tendons, and surrounding tissues such as ligaments and skeletal muscles. VersaWrap® allows tissues to glide and to remain untethered, thereby reducing reoperations and improving patient outcomes.
