Sarah Elizabeth Kuang
Head of People Operations @ SARAWAK PETCHEM SDN BHD (OFFICIAL)
About
I am an HR and People practitioner with over two decades of experience working across corporate, industrial, and project-based environments. My career has spanned established organisations as well as start-up and growth settings, where people decisions are often made under uncertainty and practical constraints. Much of my work has involved supporting organisations through change whether through setting up people practices, navigating governance considerations, or responding to evolving business and workforce needs. Over time, I have learned that sustainable people practices are shaped less by frameworks and more by judgement, timing, and a deep understanding of context. I currently work in a greenfield, industrial environment in Sarawak. Being close to operations and decision-making has reinforced how early people decisions often made quietly and pragmatically, can have a lasting impact on capability, culture, and trust. Alongside my professional role, I am a postgraduate student exploring how ESG (Social) values are interpreted and integrated into talent practices within Malaysian industry. Studying while remaining close to practice has made me more attentive to the space between intention and implementation how ideas such as fairness, inclusion, leadership, and sustainability are prioritised, translated, or sometimes deferred in real organisational settings. Looking ahead, I am increasingly interested in knowledge-sharing, consulting, and teaching, particularly in areas such as HR governance, talent and leadership development, people risk, ESG (Social), and the quieter work behind building organisations that can sustain both performance and people. I am especially drawn to contributing perspectives from industrial and regional contexts, where thoughtful adaptation matters more than adopting best practices at face value.
