1. Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport. 2. Assesses player’s skills and assigns team positions. 3. Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development. 4. Works with the athletics director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition. 5. Assigns duties to an assistant coach as necessary. 6. Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport. 7. Observes players, during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement. 8. Determines game strategy based on the team’s capabilities. 9. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times. 10. Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard. 11. Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury. 12. Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student. 13. Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program. 14. Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators. 15. Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the news media, booster clubs, service clubs, and other organizations. 16. Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms. 17. Works with the athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season.

1. Directs and supervises youth sports activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. 2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteers. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. 3. Schedules and conducts Coaches Orientations and Sports Specific Trainings each season. 4. Secures and schedules athletic fields and facilities, and works with Risk Management to review contracts and insurance requirements. 5. Transports and sets up equipment for games and practices; monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment as budget permits. 6. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, may organize and schedule program registrations. May review and process program scholarship applications. 7. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. 8. Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives. 9. Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events. 10. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner. 11. Attends appropriate and needed training offered by the YMCA. The Sports Director must also be present to all training that concerns the sports department (Parent Orientation, Coaches Trainings, No Coach meetings, Sport Cabinet meetings etc). 12. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program. 14. Handles all uniform ordering to include sponsorship coordination with sponsors and coaches. 15. Coordinates and trains volunteer coaches. In addition, develop seasonal coach directories, ensure adequate files for all volunteer coaches, and proper CBCs for all volunteer coaches. 16. Develops practice schedules with volunteer coaches and teams.

In this position, I was responsible for organizing and administering all phases of a successful NAIA volleyball program. Responsibilities include planning and conducting daily practice; preparation for competition; overseeing all aspects of recruiting; scheduling of matches; providing academic support for student-athletes; fundraising; compliance with NAIA and college rules; purchasing and budget management; and other duties as assigned by the athletic director. I was also in charge of overseeing weight training and conditioning.
