World Unity, Inc.
Boston, Georgia, United States
In 1993 I founded World Unity, Inc. We are volunteer based non-profit organization that seeks to promote equality, diversity and inclusion by raising self-awareness through the Sun poem and empowering individuals through the arts, education and innovative ideas. The poem begins with a question: Are you greater than the sun/ that shines on everyone: Black, Brown, Yellow, Red and White/ the sun does not discriminate. (c) 1985 Sara Ting. The poem is timeless, universal and transformative. It can help us all overcome all of our biases and see our common humanity. It can cultivate open mindedness, humility and forgiveness. We believe the World Unity Landmark a permanent landmark showcasing the Sun poem is needed for America and the world. We hope it will be included in the Dorchester Bay City development. We hold an annual diversity and inclusion gala to generate awareness for our project and raise funds to realize our vision. World Unity Inc. has initiated a, "Singing Equality Across America, " campaign. In the spring of 2014 we sponsored a national songwriting contest to turn the Sun poem into a song and make it come alive. Now we're sharing this song along with two lesson plans with school districts across the country. We're using the power of a song to empower individuals to value all people. The song was performed at the United Nations, September 26, 2015. We also co-sponsored an annual statewide poetry contest with WROR FM radio and a professional development event. The poetry contest is focused on the theme of Diversity and Equality. The winning poems are narrated by the student, produced by WROR radio and aired as a public service announcement throughout the month of February. The professional development event is co-sponsored with a major company focused on empowering minorities and women for professional success. Last year it was co-sponsored with Deloitte.

I've designed and presented diversity programs to students of all ages and professionals in education, law enforcement, housing authorities, financial industry, healthcare industry and non-profit organizations. The progams are engaging, thought provoking and enlightening. The focus is on self-awareness, communication and leadership. The highest compliment I've received is someone wanting more of my training. I've also developed a powerful diversity message I describe as a quiet change agent. It has been effective in producing profound changes in individuals from teaching forgiveness to humility to open mindedness. The message has been planted in all 50 states in educational institutions as well as companies such as StopandShop, Harvard Vanguard and EMC. Some response to my tool - One professional with an engineering back said it changed the way he looks at people another person said he tries to live what the message expresses. Second book, "Small Book with a Big Idea, the Power of Listening in a World of Differences." Executive from a global financial institution read the book and his comment, "Terrific." An IT executive, Michael Hemingway said, "This is truly inspiring book. It adds a great value in emphasizing the importance of listening and the impact of self-awareness. Kudos Sara! Great read.” First book, "Small Book with a Big Idea, 5 Minute Training To Empower You and Transform the World," is an effective tool that can empower and enhance any diversity and inclusion program. The Michigan National Guard order 200 copies and 5,000 were sponsored by Unilever and distributed at the Urban League's National Conference in Boston the summer of 2011.
