As a manager overseeing safety, I conduct risk assessments and develops mitigation strategies; oversee worker’s compensation, property, and general liability programs; investigate and coordinate insurance claims with the District’s third party administrator; oversee employee ergonomic program, review assessment reports and provide guidance on ergonomic equipment; identify hazards and safety issues throughout District owned/leased properties, including offices, educational labs, auto/machine shops, theatres/auditoriums, construction sites, and more; develop and provide safety training; maintain all Cal-OSHA mandated programs; and manage accident insurance for classroom students and athletes.

Manage rental properties, including administration of lease agreements and insurance, communications with tenants, perform preventive maintenance, schedule repairs and upgrades, P&L statement and tax summaries.

Lead the identification, communication, measurement, and management of company-wide risk. Manage insurance procurement districtwide, including coverages such as cyber/information, fine art, property and liability, student and athletes, international students, energy, and workers’ compensation. Develop and implement risk management and compliance policies/procedures, and manage property and liability claims, cyber information breaches, and all litigation against the District.

The location was closed in 2006 and absorbed by parent corporation Quest Diagnostics. I was offered a new position within Quest at the San Juan Capistrano campus off Ortega Highway. I was also offered a position in an academic laboratory and chose this career path.
